This is where Joaquim Pinheiro de Azevedo Leite Pereira lived, the man who, in the 19th century, found the solution to stop phylloxera, the plague that almost destroyed the Douro vineyards. Its discovery saved one of the world’s most emblematic wine regions – and its memory lives on today, engraved on the walls of this three-century-old house and in the testimony of its heirs.<\/p>

Today, the 8th generation of Joaquim Leite Pereira’s family continues to preserve this unique legacy and opens the doors of Casa do Bucheiro for guided tours, wine tastings and authentic wine experiences.
